Broadditch Farm Shop, Manor Farm, Southfleet, Kent
Sixth generation farmers Mark and John Harris are in their first year of using KEYPrime to keep their records and enterprise management as fresh as their on-farm events and farm shop.
The 500 acre farm has diversified to utilise and embrace bringing the public through the farm gate. Branding is big at Broadditch and “Reducing your food miles, so your food tastes miles better” accurately describes the freshness of the home-grown potatoes and vegetables, a core part of the total quality merchandise on offer. The events are spread out during the year to encompass Easter, the summer holidays, Halloween and Christmas. These major events are interspersed with school visits as educating children about food and the environment is high on the agenda.
The footfall for this year’s Broadwitch Hauntfest is impressive - just over 11,000 over eleven nights. The farm is justly proud of a recent critical review claiming: “Broadwitch is the one to beat!” The farm was nominated for four Scar Tour awards, and won the 2014 Street Entertainment category, competing industry giants like Alton Towers and Thorpe Park.
While the fun is going on outside the bookkeeper Hayley is keeping tabs on the business with the help of Landmark’s James Lutener. They have set up her coding system and reports so that everything from the American-sourced costumes to the school visits are costed accurately.
“I really enjoy KEYPrime,” says Hayley. “I would not have believed it but KEY32 looks out of date even though I only stopped using it in March. James understands farming and my workload so he shows me how to use the system to efficiently on his regular training visits. I like to keep on top of any issues and not leave them to year end. After Christmas we are getting down to the budgeting features which I am actually looking forward to! This year I am attending the Landmark winter workshop in Ashford which is a great way to share ideas, look at the bigger picture and learn new features.”
The Christmas Barn has opened its doors to enchant and entice as a complementary experience with the farm shop for imaginative festive food and decorations. The Farmer Christmas Event is selling tickets fast right up until Christmas Eve to keep the children entertained.
